RIP Michael Jackson!
Last night’s BET Awards left alot to be desired. But I won’t let that distract me. I will however share three videos that I think are fitting for the day:
Thanks to Dr. Marvin Lynn for pointing out the last two…

The official start of iPhone Development Education

My First Simulator Simulation!
So, I’m just beginning my tutorials and self explorations into the land of iPhone/iPod Touch development. I have an awesome idea for an iphone app and hope to finish it before school starts this coming fall!
I also want to develop it for the Android, but will settle for completion on the iPhone this summer.
Stay tuned for updates and progress!

The Magic of Michelle Obama
Meeting Michelle ObamaThis picture was taken by me just inches away from her!
I ‘met’ Michelle Obama yesterday! I shook her hand (for a good 2 min) and felt the magic of her presence. She is an amazing woman and embodies all of what this country needs in a first lady. The crowd adored her and listened to her every word at Greater DC Cares‘ 20th Annual Philanthropy Summit. It was amazing.
Here’s a short clip.
I feel like I will meet her again….
To be continued….

Our Research has Impact!
So, in case you didn’t know, I am doing research on how children search the web. http://www.cs.umd.edu/hcil/KidsSearch.
We – Beth, my research partner, and I have been traveling all around Maryland asking 7, 9, 11 year olds about their computer use and search behavior. We have learned a great deal about how they search…along with how to get around in Maryland.
Well, today, I just learned that Google has started to implement one of our design ideas. Check out this video:
It’s an awesome feeling to see the impact of your research!
Special thanks to my Advisor – Dr. Allison Druin!

NOTE: I was in Stats class the day they filmed, so unfortunately, I missed it. But I did get an A in Stats!

[quickThought] YouTube
It’s amazing how the folks at YouTube are diligent about remove videos that feature songs and videos that are owned by record companies, but let all the abusive, obscene, hate-filled, and degrading stuff continue to play.

Reflections of Why I do What I do…

Congratulations to me! I received word just a few days ago that I won the Google Anita Borg Scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year. I was so elated to realize that a company like Google acknowledged my accomplishments.
I must say that I hadn’t realized how much I had attempted to work on in my career until I compiled it all in preparation for submission. It is a great honor to be recognized for this work by one of the best computer companies in my field.
This led me to ask myself, why do I do the things that I do anyway? And although I could provide a great answer, I’ve decided to post this video promoting one of my sorority sister’s art & skill. Feel the energy, observe the passion, and note the song’s content. This video says it all! …and yes, I am a gemini (note reference in song).
